Making the complex beautifully simple

I have worked with The Guardian since 2021, originally providing design and animation support to their Media team as they produced six short films to expand on recent Guardian exclusives (of which 'Fukushima', 'Tax havens' and 'Weather apps' are featured below).

Following this I was commissioned for a variety of design tasks in various departments: reviewing the Guardian YouTube channel graphics, designing layouts and infographics for social media, implementing Google Web Stories and perhaps most notably, providing animation and motion graphic assets for Guardian Australia's 2022 General Election coverage.

At this point, I was then introduced to the (Oscar and Bafta-winning) 'Special Projects' team and since then my main contribution has been providing art direction and animations for their film and documentary output.

Please note: When I edit these showreel examples I obviously highlight my own art direction, animation and motion design contributions but that certainly doesn't mean that I am entirely responsible for every visual shown. I have been fortunate to collaborate with many exceptionally talented colleagues — those that I can recall at the time of writing are listed below:

I supported The Guardian’s interactive “Money, muscles and anxiety: why the manosphere clicked with young men - a visual deep dive” as motion design/animation advisor and editor.

I shaped the motion language and pacing, advised on transitions and type-in-motion, edited the interview sequences, and carried out lots of rotoscoping to integrate the contributors seamlessly within the graphic environment.
